I was born and raised in Atwood, TN, a town of about 1,000 at the time. Our school was 1-12 in the same building, and my mother taught chemistry there. I excelled in basketball and also played baseball. My first two years of college were at Freed Hardeman in Henderson, TN. I received a BS degree at U T Martin just in time to serve in the Army National Guard.
I married Jane in 1973, moved to Jasper in 1977, and began working in community banking. We have three children all of whom graduated from MCHS.
I served as chairman of the Jasper Regional Planning Commission for 40 years. Along with that civic duty, I served two terms on the Jasper Board of Aldermen. Both these endeavors provided valuable insight into creating and monitoring budgets.
I was involved with Jasper Parks and Recreation as a coach, president of the baseball league and parent. For several years I volunteered regularly at Marion County Community Ministries (food bank).
Serving on the CRC board is something I feel lead to do because I have a heart for people in recovery.
